Pomology Day

26/9/2026

This Thursday, we explored the universe of apples 🍏... Victor, our apple nerdy, showed us through our apple orchard, which was planted as a living gene bank of about 100 old dutch apple varieties. These apples are impossible to find in the supermarket as they were used as a long lasting winter food in the past, whereas nowadays we wand sweet hand apples. Whilst we harvested and tasted the fruits, we learned some basics of pomology: where do you need to look at to determine the apple species 🔎? When do you need to harvest them and how can you use them? After the harvest, we had the traditional potluck and campfire (with some apple meals) and everyone could take home some apples to make apple pastries for next working session! Which variety is the best baking apple 🏆?
