What is WSF ?
WSF is a community of students from different nationalities and disciplines where members themselves decide what they want to do and how they want to do it. We encourage members to learn how to produce food, organize Projects. and produce bio-based products. Our communal working on the field is managed by the field commitee. At WSF we believe that learning to organize and produce something with your peers is a great experience that will stay with you for a very long time, not to mention the organizational and social skills that will be useful wherever you go!
Our Story
WSF was founded on the 4th of May, 2016 in Wageningen after an eight month period of preparation. The initial motivation was to find a way to do something practical alongside our study and to apply what we learned in class. At the time we were all studying Plant Sciences, so growing vegetables together seemed like a really good way for us to fulfill this practical element. Also, trying to sell these vegetables and organizing and managing a farm seemed like a great way to learn about organization and commercial production. We then founded this association to be able to organize more projects and to give other students a chance to apply their knowledge and learn to organize something. The projects also included interests that go beyond plants, such as beekeeping, mushrooms, fish and brewing beer. To make this possible we needed land to work on, so we contacted the university, and applied to become a project of the Field, an abandoned piece of land that was in the process of being re-designed to become an attractive entrance to the campus and a wildlife corridor linking the Blauwe Bergen and the Dassenbos woodland. Once the project became a part of the Field, we needed to call in the help of our fellow students. We presented our ideas to a diverse group of students, many of them now active members, and created more projects. Since then, we’ve continued to welcome new members and projects into the WSF community".
What do we do at WSF?
Working Sessions on the Field are every Thursday from around 17.30 onwards. We have dinner together around 19.30 - 20.00, either on the Field when weather permits, or at an indoor location. Working Sessions may be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions, and occur less frequently during the summer holidays as well as during the winter months. Indoor activities are planned during winter.
